Kyra has been in Key Club since her freshman year of high school, which is 3 years. She'll be going on her fourth in this next school year. She is staying in the club for her whole high school career because, as she says, "I really like the goal of the club. Also, my friends are in it too, and it's always fun volunteering with them."
We had a good conversation about lots of things key club related, and not. One thing I asked her was if she could go anywhere in the world, where would she go? She replied that it was a super hard question, but after thinking for a while she made up her mind. "I think I'd want to go to Europe! There's so many countries to visit and the culture there is so diverse, so going--" Then her dog came into her room and distracted her. After a few seconds of petting her dog, she finished her sentence, "--there for a month to just sight see, eat, and walk around would be so much fun." She's never been to Europe before but says that some of her friends live there, so that's another reason for her to want to go there.
She doesn't speak any foreign languages fluently, so going to France or Spain might be a bit hard for her. She knows some basic Japanese, because she took a class at Contra Costa College during her freshman year that counted for her high school language credits.
After graduating high school she plans on going to a college in California, but she doesn't have any specific colleges in mind, and no details figured out yet. She wants to go to southern California because she likes the warmer weather down there.
The last question I asked of her was, if you could describe yourself in 5 words or less, what would they be? She had a very thoughtful response, and after waiting a minute or so, she responded with, "Well, on buzzfeed quizzes when they ask, I always choose 'caring'. So I guess I'm caring... And loyal. Friendly also... I think. Adventurous, and kind."
She's a really nice person over all, and I learned a lot from talking with her. If you have an adventure, share it with her!
Kyra Kawamoto, soon-to-be Senior
Maddy's favourite event in Key Club was the Albany Library Book Sale. She said all the books were really cool to look at, even though (and some of her friends chimed in for this) "there was some heavy-lifting, got kind tired... But it was fun because I did it with all my friends."
She joined Key Club in this past school year, with a bunch of her friends. She's a freshman, and will be going into her second year as a key-clubber soon.
After I finished asking all the boring key club related questions, I started with the more interesting questions to learn more about Maddy, as a person. One interesting fact about her is that she MURDERED SOMEONE!! Nope, just kidding. She's never murdered anyone, but she does has three younger siblings and that can be seriously annoying at times. Her friend added, "Who's your favourite sibling?" and her immediate response was just, "Uh, it depends on the time really."
We got off the topic of siblings because I wanted to know more about her, and so I asked what her favourite books, movies, and songs were. She had to think about the answer to that for a bit, but she said "I'll just go with my favourite all time series; Ranger's Apprentice." She also said that she doesn't have a favourite song at the moment, but All Time Low would have to be her favourite artist.
Her hobbies include: playing volleyball, reading, trying to do calligraphy, chasing after siblings, and getting straight A's.
